Many Farms is an Indian community within the Navajo Nation, 15 miles north of Chinle. The Many Farms community began emerging in 1937 when the reservoir dam for irrigation was constructed. During this period the community had a few clusters of homes, a one-room general store, and a one-room schoolhouse. Many Farms Lake is one of the largest lakes within the Navajo Nation; it contains over 25,000-acre feet of water and related canals have water carrying capacity of 2,000 acre-feet per season. There are several hiking trails and a campground near Many Farms Lake. Many Farms Lake Campground is popular with the local people in Many Farms. Some of the nearby trails have interesting names such as; Many Ladders Trail, Crack Rock Trail, and Many Skulls Trail. |
